Home Our Work

Scope of Charitable Services

All services are provided without discrimination and are guided by community needs and national development priorities.

Focus Area 01

Inclusive Education and Skills Development

Education is the clearest route out of generational poverty — but only where the learner who needs it most can actually stay in the classroom. Our education work removes the practical barriers that push vulnerable learners out.

  • Support to vulnerable learners — addressing the material and social obstacles to enrolment, attendance and completion.
  • Education infrastructure and learning environments — safe, adequate facilities that make learning possible.
  • Capacity building and school management support — strengthening the people and systems that run schools day to day.
Focus Area 02

Community Health and Well-being

Health outcomes are decided long before a clinic visit — in what households eat, the water they draw, and what they know about preventable illness. We work upstream, with the household and the community.

  • Nutrition, WASH and health promotion initiatives — practical prevention at community level.
  • Support to vulnerable households and communities — targeted assistance where need is greatest.
Focus Area 03

Sustainable Livelihoods and Economic Empowerment

Relief that ends when a project closes is not development. We invest in the skills, organisation and income-earning capacity that let households carry on without us.

  • Community capacity building — skills and structures communities own and keep.
  • Youth and women empowerment initiatives — economic opportunity for those most often locked out of it.
Focus Area 04

Environmental Conservation and Climate Resilience

Malawi's poorest households feel climate shocks first and hardest. Conservation only holds where the community protecting the resource also benefits from it.

  • Community-based environmental protection — stewardship led by the people who live with the resource.
  • Climate adaptation and sustainability initiatives — helping communities withstand shocks rather than recover from them repeatedly.
Focus Area 05

Gender Equality, Child Protection and Safeguarding

No programme succeeds in a community where some members are unsafe or unheard. Safeguarding is not an add-on to our work — it is a condition of it.

  • Promotion of safe, inclusive and equitable communities — advancing gender equality and protecting children across every programme we run.
  • Zero tolerance to fraud, corruption and abuse, in our own operations and in the partnerships we accept.
Rights & Responsibilities

A two-way relationship

Charitable service is not charity handed down. Beneficiaries hold rights we are bound to honour, and responsibilities that keep the work honest.

Beneficiaries have the right to

  • Access services without discrimination.
  • Be treated with respect and dignity.
  • Provide feedback or lodge complaints without fear of retaliation.

Beneficiaries are expected to

  • Participate honestly and responsibly.
  • Respect TiO staff, volunteers and partners.
  • Use provided support for its intended charitable purpose.

Partner with us to reach one more community.

Every partnership, donation and volunteer hour goes directly into programmes that outlast us.
